- Your air tickets are likely to make up a large portion of your
total safari cost.
- Our specialty is arranging and running safaris - we generally leave the air
ticketing to specialists. We can liaise on your behalf or put
you in direct touch but
- if you'd prefer to arrange your air tickets independently, then
here are some pointers on how to obtain the best prices with the least
hassle:
Make your reservation early. Airlines sell only a limited
number of seats at the lowest fares. When those seats sell out, the
price goes up.
Purchase all of your tickets, both international and regional at
the same time from the same source. By purchasing only your
international flights and then arranging domestic or regional tickets
separately you may gain on trip flexibility but it's likely to be a more
expensive total air package.
It's almost always less expensive to use only one airline or
code-sharing airlines for a trip instead of two.
Make a reservation as soon as you know your travel dates to increase your chances of finding a good fare.
Very importantly, avoid making
changes once your tickets are purchased.
Discounted fares frequently have restrictions that can be difficult
and frustrating to interpret. If you're looking for the cheapest price
you need to understand discounted fare restrictions:
- Many discounted fares require that you make a reservation 7, 14 or
21 days before your trip depending on the fare. The best
international fares often require a reservation at least 30 days in
advance.
- Flying on a weekday usually costs less. Flights on Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday usually offer the lowest fares. Fares are
sometimes (but not always) higher on Monday and Friday than on other
weekdays. Saturday flights occasionally have discount fares, but as
a rule it's more expensive to fly on a weekend than a weekday.
- Most low fares require that you stay over at least one Saturday
night before your return flight. However, some fares may only
require you to stay a minimum of 3 or 4 days.
- To get the lowest roundtrip fare, that fare must be available on
both the departing and return flights you select. If the fare is
sold out on either of these, the price you end up with will be much
higher. So if you can't find the fare you want; try an earlier or
later flight or, if possible, consider flying on another day.
Note: any light aircraft charters between camps or
domestic hubs on our safaris will be arranged and
included as a specific transfer item in your safari - you needn't worry
about arranging these flights
