Politically and economically the country is still an unmitigated disaster for
the people of the country. We'd all hoped for a change in political
leadership this year but Mugabe still outwits everybody. We still have an
old bottle of champagne that'll pop the minute he's gone. If you're
looking for a full news update then visit "The
Zimbabwe Situation" (updated daily by Karen and Barbara from Australia and hosted by us since April 2000).
We actively encourage travel to Zimbabwe. We're one of a very
small group of safari and tour operators very active in Zimbabwe - we'll still
pushing the country hard - in no way do we directly or indirectly support the
regime.
There's more to this though - Chris has returned to Zimbabwe to re-establish
our Victoria Falls office and to use this as a base for privately guided safaris
through the region.
Mana Pools and the lower Zambezi canoeing safaris continue to produce the
most amazing trips and Victoria Falls of course remains a hot favourite.
The latter is quiet, streets are clean and service standards are as good as
they've ever been!
Hwange has been full of good surprises. The guides are doing a fine
job, camp standards are high and the game has been particularly good.
Chris Worden guided in October and recorded and photographed the following over
3 days at the Hide and Linkwasha: 2 cheetah; 4 prides of lion, including 4
Hwange black maned males; 3 large herds of buffalo; elephant everywhere; Roan
and Sable antelope; 2 herds of eland; southern giraffe in large numbers
(including a herd of 26); large herds of kudu; loads of zebra; waterbuck herd of
21; over 200 lesser spotted eagles feeding on termites; 1 male white rhino.
Look out for
- Victoria Falls - first class accommodation, outstanding service and the
full array of adventurer activities - speak to Jools or Mark or book
directly online through our sister website at
www.safpar.com
- Do some research on Hwange - speak to Trish, Chris or Liz about the best
options
- Lower Zambezi canoeing - Mana Pools is quite simply the best
walking and canoe safari combination in Africa - better than the Zambian
shoreline and not matched by anything available on the upper Zambezi, or any
of the canoeing rivers in Mozambique, South Africa or Namibia.
